Kathleen Matheos, Past Program Coordinator, COHERE
Kathleen Matheos is the Director of the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development and holds an adjunct faculty position in the Faculty of Education: Adult and Post-Secondary. She has served as the Program Coordinator for COHERE since 2002. Kathleen holds a doctorate in Adult and Continuing Education and has worked in the field for over 25 years spanning both the college and university systems. Over the last ten years she has worked internationally in Africa, South America, Asia and in the Middle East.
Both her practice and research is guided by the need to provide accessible, appropriate and accredited education, within the changing landscape of higher education, through the informed integration of technology. She teaches in both graduate and undergraduate programs at University of Manitoba using blended learning/online delivery models.
Gale Parchoma, Current Program Coordinator, COHERE
Gale Parchoma is an Associate Professor of Educational Technology and Design (ETAD) in the Department of Curriculum Studies at the University of Saskatchewan. She holds a doctorate in Educational Administration and has taught online and blended undergraduate and graduate courses for more than a decade. From 2007-2012 she was a member of a team that designed, developed, and taught the e-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning PhD program for the Department of Educational Research at Lancaster University in the UK. From 2013-2016, Gale was an Associate Professor in the Learning Sciences at the University of Calgary. To date, under her supervision, 20 graduate students have completed masters and doctoral programs in the field.
Gale’s research interests include design thinking, distributed cognition, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and simulation-based education. During her time in Lancaster, Gale led a UK Technology Transfer Board and National Health Service-funded team who developed online approaches to integrating technology enhanced learning in undergraduate medical education and examined simulation-based medical education practices in the National Health Service. She is currently leading a series of blended and online learning research projects that involve nationally and internationally recognized scholars whose work spans a range of disciplines.
Kathleen and Gale co-led a COHERE retreat in Toronto in May 2017 where directors and invited delegates developed a renewed vision and 3-year strategy for the future of COHERE. Their keynote address will outline the vision and the strategy for revitalizing our organization, connecting COHERE with a broader international community of researchers.
